Today we remember the 14 women killed in the Polytechnique Montréal massacre on December 6, 1989, and call on our Compassionate Community to take action on gender-based violence.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is about remembering those who have experienced gender-based violence and those who we have lost to it.
Gender-based violence affects women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ communities, facing lasting personal, social, and economic impacts. In Canada, a woman or girl is killed in an act of gender-based violence every 48 hours.
