Statement on MAID

Care at End of Life

At New West Hospice Society, our person-centered approach strives to support each person in whatever approach they choose, inclusive of MAiD.

Every Canadian has the right to good, professional and community-based palliative care at end of life.

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) became a legal option for end of life care in Canada in June 2016.

We neither encourage nor discourage any option for care over another, recognizing that one option may be pursued alongside another.

NWHS recognizes each individual holds their own values, beliefs and meaning behind their experience of living with a life limiting illness.

We endeavour to support each person in the options they consider as they approach end of life and the impact this may have upon them and their loved ones.

We recognize a person’s view on how their life should end is known to fluctuate when experiencing advanced illness.

We are here to support each person through their own process, as they define it.
