End of life care for the city's most vulnerable
Hospice for the Homeless is a home grown initiative developed by Sharon Ennis, Manager at Legion Manor, and supported by the New West Hospice Society.
Homelessness is an issue that all cities deal with. In New Westminster, the Point in Time Homeless Count completed in March 2023, indicated that there were 57 Unsheltered and 146 Sheltered Homeless people in New Westminster.
Legion Manor is a housing complex designated mainly for veterans. Some of them have lived on the street at one time or another. Sharon persuaded the Board of Directors to dedicate one suite in Legion Manor to house the homeless when they needed hospice care.
It is a bachelor suite at approximately 600 square feet.
Thanks to our ongoing work together on the Voice for Vulnerable project, Sharon approached the New West Hospice Society to seek support to make this new project a reality. We agreed to work together.
