Celebrating 10 Years: Voice for the Vulnerable

2026 marks the 10th Anniversary of the New West Hospice Society and we are taking this time to look back and celebrate the milestones that brought us to the organization we are today.

Today, we are starting at a mid-point in our history and are celebrating our Voice for the Vulnerable program.

How It Started

In September 2021, we joined forces with the city of New Westminster to help bring Advanced Care Planning to the unhoused community in New West.

The goal of the project was to meet with homeless on the street, in coffee shops, in food lines, or wherever they were and to have a conversation about their health, their family, and what they wanted in terms of end of life care.

We also approached the conversation of what they wanted done with their belongings should anything happen to them while they were living on the street.

To ensure our most vulnerable were supported at end of life, all recorded information was filed as an Advanced Care Plan with Fraser Health.

Where We Are Now

Funding for Voice for the Vulnerable ended in July of 2022, but we have continued to do this important work.

In the years since, a volunteer from NWHS continues to meet with homeless on the street and at Connect Day.

Now in partnership with the New Westminster Homelessness Coalition Society and other local service providers, we serve our most vulnerable by offering community assistance. Our volunteers are committed to offering support, education, and help with completing an Advance Care Plan.
