Celebrating 10 Years: Expressive Art Therapy

June’s 10th Anniversary Highlight is a look back at the evolution of Expressive Art Therapy!

This month we are looking back to 2023 as we reached capacity for expanding our programming and the launch of Expressive Art Therapy.

At the New West Hospice Society we are so lucky to have the guidance of our facilitator, Catherine Lamb. Over the last three years, Catherine has witnessed participants exploring their grief story by using various art materials.

Today, in 2026, the move to our new office space in Braid St. Studios has given us the opportunity to expand our Expressive Art Therapy program to new heights.

In Catherine’s Words:

I’ve worked in the mental health and addictions field for many years. I was an expressive arts therapist at a women’s intensive treatment program, left to pursue end-of-life doula training at Douglas college and hospice training through New West Hospice society. And extensive experience with grief and loss with both of my parents, friends, colleagues and clients.

As a facilitator, I attune to each participant – their needs, stories and hold space for deep emotions to express on paper or clay, movement and dance to be created, all within a safe and supportive environment.

There is opportunity to share art work with other participants and are always amazed to learn by mutual sharing that ‘they are not alone’ in their grief.

I am honoured and deeply grateful to share space with amazing and resilient participants! And I’m looking forward to the new space to continue this group.

In celebration of 10 years of NWHS, and 3 years of Expressive Arts, we are so grateful to Catherine for her commitment to our Compassionate Community.
