Celebrating 10 years: Community Among Peers in Hospice Care

Celebrating 10 years: Community Among Peers in Hospice Care

July’s 10th Anniversary Highlight is a look back to 2024 and a meeting among our peers in Hospice care!

In 2024 we presented our Compassionate City framework to audiences at the BC Centre for Palliative Care.

This marked an important milestone in our organization’s recognition as being a relatively young society, but making big waves. We discussed our unique approach to end-of-life support going beyond a hospice residence through the Dialogue on Death and Dying. Leaving space for grief alongside education and engagement with our Compassionate Community.

Many attendees also wanted to know how we approached the City of New West and their adoption of the Compassionate City Charter in 2017.

New Westminster is a Compassionate City, and the only one in British Columbia. Our city’s adoption of the Charter has provided an admirable collaboration for a working relationship and policy support for hospice from our local government.

These conversations with our peers in hospice care were an important reminder that our organization is headed down the right path for the next 10 years.
