The first week in May marks National Hospice Palliative Care Week in Canada.
This year we are recognizing the impact of palliative care in communities, providing resources, and celebrating the incredible work of organizations who provide access to care.
Hospice Palliative Care is a specialized form of healthcare that aims to relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for those with life limiting illnesses and their families. The palliative approach can cover a variety of supports: from the discussion pain and symptom management, to offering caregiver support, and recognizing the importance of physical and mental health.
Many palliative care services also provide bereavement support for family members, allowing time and space to work through emotions and grief regarding the death of a loved one.
Most importantly, remember that palliative care is for everyone. By having the conversation about care, you and your family can access support tailored to your needs.
